Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has banned the use of mobile phones in the school classrooms by the teachers as well as the students.

The government here on Monday issued an order prohibiting the use of mobile phones in school classrooms in the state.

The teachers should not take their mobile phones to the classrooms.

The teachers should handover their mobile phones to the headmaster before they go to the classrooms.

The students should be allowed to carry mobile phones in school premises.

The government in its order said that the decision of banning the use of mobile phones in school classrooms was taken based on the UNESCO's Global Education Monitoring System to avoid interruptions to teaching.

The decision was taken after discussing the matter with the unions of teachers, it added.
