Jammu/IBNS: Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor GC Murmu has said the upcoming Amarnath yatra was subject to the Covid-19 situation as the pilgrimage requires comprehensive planning and execution, said media reports.

The pilgrimage to the 3,880 metre high cave shrine of Amarnath, considered one of the holiest in Hinduism, lasts for 42 days and is scheduled to begin on June 23. The holy Amarnath cave is located in the Himalayas in south Kashmir. The 10-day-long Buda Amarnath in Poonch district of Jammu Kashmir will commence in August.

In a meeting with a nine-member delegation of Baba Amarnath and Buda Amarnath Yatri Niyas at the Raj Bhavan here, the Lt Governor said all possible means to conduct the yatra will be reviewed but it is subject to review of Covid-19 situation, said a Times Now report.

He said the availability of health care professionals, police and paramilitary personnel for the yatra is also under question as a large number of them are deployed in containing the deadly coronavirus in the union territory.
