All-party meeting in Srinagar to asses flood situation

Srinagar, Sep 13 (IBNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday called an all-party meeting in Srinagar to take a stock of the flood situation across the state, reports said.

In the meeting, the CM is expected to seek suggestions from other party representatives on how to improve relief and rescue drives in flood-affected belts.

According to official sources, over 200 people have been killed in the worst floods in the state in over a century.

Thousands of people are still stranded in many areas submerged due to flood water. They are in dire need of food, water and other essential commodities.

The state government on Friday announced a financial package worth Rs.200 crore to flood-hit people living in the Jammu region and the Kashmir valley.

The CM also said the government would supply free ration to those affected for six months.

Telecom services are slowly getting improved as the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and other private players have restored their network in various parts of the state.
