All party delegation can Come and see my condition in jail: Mitra

| | Jan 04, 2015, at 03:34 am
Kolkata, Jan 3 (IBNS): Arrested Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra on Saturday said an all-party delegation could visit the jail in which he is lodged if they wanted to check the condition in which he is staying in the prison.

Amid allegations that the leader was enjoying undue benefits in the prison, Madan Mitra told media: "Those who are saying that I am currently getting additional facilities in the prison then I am urging them to visit me and see the condition in which I am kept here."

Accepting the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)'s appeal and rejecting his bail plea, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) of Alipore Court Haradhan Mukherjee on Friday sent Madan Mitra to judicial custody for another 14 days.

After 14 days of jail custody, Madan Mitra was produced in the Alipore court on Friday.

Lawyer of Sudipta Sen, Naresh Valodia, was also sent to a 14-day further judicial custody by the court.

The lawyers of Madan Mitra and Naresh Valodia pleaded for their clients' bail.

Opposing their bail pleas, CBI lawyer Partha Sarathi Dutta complained to the judge that Madan Mitra had taken a huge amount of money from Saradha group and he had invested that money in several places.

After a marathon 5 hours of questioning, the CBI arrested Madan Mitra on Dec 12 in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam.

The Saradha Group, that went bust last year, left lakhs of depositors in a fix.

Saradha Group chief Sudipta Sen and Saradha Group director Debjani Mukherjee were arrested in April 2013 from Jammu and Kashmir.

Several other TMC leaders, parliamentarians, were earlier taken in custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The CBI had earlier arrested industrialist Srinjoy Bose  in the scam.

Bose is the owner-editor of Bengali daily newspaper 'Sambad Protidin' and executive member of 'Mohun Bagan' football club. He is also the editor of Trinamool Congress (TMC) mouthpiece 'Jaago Bangla.'

Suspended Trinamool MP Kunal Ghosh and party vice president Rajat Majumdar were arrested earlier.
