Ajay Maken to head Congress campaign for Delhi polls

| | Jan 12, 2015, at 08:33 pm
New Delhi, Jan 12 (IBNS) Former Union Sports Minister and Congress leader Ajay Maken would lead the campaign committee for the upcoming Delhi assembly polls for the party.

The poll dates will be announced on Monday.

Maken, who has never been tainted by corruption charges, might fight the polls too from a constituency in Delhi, said media reports.

The ruling BJP in India has already geared up for the Delhi Assembly polls with PM Modi addressing a meeting in Ramlila Maidan where he attacked former chief minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal.

Polls were necessitated since the President's Rule would end in February.

The previous government was of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Kejriwal as Chief Minister with outside support of Congress which lasted for 49 days since the AAP chief decided to resign over the Jan Lokpal Bill in Feb last year.

The Delhi assembly was dissolved in November last year when neither of the three major parties- the BJP, the Congress, and AAP - said they could form a government.
