Aishwarya Rai Bachchan lauds PM Modi's demonetisation policy

New Delhi, Nov 13 (IBNS): In the wake of Narendra Modi's decision of demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs.1000 notes, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who generally reserves herself from commenting on any public issue, hailed the Prime Minister's move and said this will wipe out corruption from the country.

In an interview to NDTV channel, the actress said: "As a citizen, honestly I will say congratulations Mr Prime Minister. You have gone ahead with a very strong move for your larger plan to wipe out corruption in our country and that's the larger overview we as a country need to recognize."

She acknowledged the fact that citizens will face inconvenience for sometime but said all should embrace it for larger benefit.

"Change is not always comfortable, everyone will find their way to embrace it if they focus on the larger picture," she told the channel.

The Government has scrapped the Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500 notes with effect from Tuesday midnight to fight black money.

In unprecedented scenes, millions of people on Saturday thronged in front of banks across the country to deposit the now-invalid Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes.

The Government has asked the people to deposit their Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes in banks within a specific time frame and get smaller denominations in exchange.

It has also  announced that deposits above Rs. 2.5 lakh will be taxed and could draw a 200 per cent penalty if found disproportionately higher than the account owner's income.

The banks have been asked to keep the details of PAN card of people depositing such large amounts over the 50-day period till December 30

Banks will remain open on Sunday and many banks have announced longer working hours.
