Chennai, Dec 25 (IBNS): The AIADMK, on Monday, expelled six district secretaries in an emergency meeting convened by the party in Chennai after the shock defeat in R K Nagar constituency by-election when TTV Dhinakaran, who contested as an independent candidate, clinched the crucial seat, according to media reports.

The result was declared on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu chief minister E Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam called a meeting of the party's top leaders on Monday to discuss the party's humiliating defeat in a seat that fell vacant after the death of former chief minister and party chief J Jayalalithaa.

The expelled six district secretaries were allegedly close to sidelined leader TTV Dhinakaran.

Prior to the elections, the two factions within AIADMK not only merged to put up a united front but also gained the right to use the original party symbol of two leaves.
