Ahmednagar tense over rape and murder of minor girl

Mumbai, Jul 18 (IBNS): Ahmednagar and a few other areas in Maharashtra is observing a 'bandh' on Monday to protest against the rape and murder of a minor girl while the state chief minister a fast track court will handle the case, according to media reports.
The girl's heavily mutilated body was found on Wednesday
 
Three people have been arrested and remanded to police custody till July 25, media reported.
 
Protesters were seen on the roads in Ahmednagar, town with police keeping a close tab on the law and order situation. 
 
Aurangabad, Beed, and Osmanabad joined the bandh and schools remained closed, according to local reports.
 
The Maharashtra Assembly session was adjourned for the day on Monday following the ruckus over the Ahmednagar case, media reported. 
 
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Monday that a fast track court will take up the Ahmednagar rape and murder case and Ujjwal Nikam is to be appointed the special public prosecutor for the case, media reported.
 
The CM also said the government has given rupees five lakh as financial help to the victim's family. His office tweeted, "CM made a statement on Kopardi case in the assembly & announced ₹5 lakh to the victims family from CMRF & ₹3 lakh from Manodhairya Scheme."
 
On Monday, a special bench will work for extended hours to hear the convicts' plea in the Nirbhaya rape and murder case.
