Ahead of Winter session, LS Speaker appeals for cooperation from all parties

 New Delhi/UNI: Ahead of the Winter session of Parliament, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla on Saturday appealed for cooperation from all political parties for the smooth functioning of the House.

In an all-party meeting comvened with the leaders of various parties in the Lower House, the Speaker advised the political leaders to first discuss the issues in the business advisory committee . 

Addressing the meeting, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present, the Speaker said that he will try to take maximum number of issues.

"The House is answerable to the people and I hope all political parties will raise issues of public interest. All parties have assured that the there will be fruitful discuss and and the session will be smooth", said the Speaker. .

The meeting was also attended by Parliamentary affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi and his deputy Arjun Ram Meghwal and leaders of various political parties , including Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Congress MP Kodikkunnil Suresh, TMC's Sudip Bandyopadhyay, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, DMK leader TR Baalu, BSP leader Danish Ali and others.

The Winter session will start on November 18 and continue till December 13. 

The government is expected to take forward many important legislative agendas including the Citizenship (amendment) bill and a Bill to regularise 1728 unauthorised colonies in Delhi.

However, the opposition parties have already stated that they will take on the government on various issues, especially the state of economy, unemployment and other crises. 

The Winter session will have 20 sittings.
