Lucknow/UNI: The Bharatiya Janata Party will start 'rath yatras' across Uttar Pradesh from December 19, marking a formal electoral campaign for the upcoming state Assembly elections, the party announced on Saturday.

The saffron party held a meeting at BJP state headquarters here, presided over by General Secretary (Organisation) Sunil Bansal.

Party sources said the rath yatra starting from Ambedkar Nagar, will be flagged by national BJP president JP Nadda.

Five more rath yatras will start simultaneously from different parts of the state.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will flag off the rath yatra starting from Bithore, near Kanpur.

BJP plans to take out rath yatras in all 403 Assembly segments in the state.

Senior leaders will be assigned with the task of making these yatras a success, they added.
