Chennai/IBNS: Three months ahead of the release of VK Sasikala, the aide of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, from jail, her assets worth INR 1,500 crore has been seized by the Income Tax department.

The assets are located in the Kodanad and Siruthavur areas of Tamil Nadu, IT officials informed.

Sasikala was convicted in a money laundering case in February 2017 which led to an imprisonment of four years.

She was close to the former CM of Tamil Nadu late J Jayalalitha. After Jayalalitha's death, Sasikala was appointed as the interim General Secretary of the party.

Her lawyer Rajasenthur Pandian is hopeful that she would be out of the jail as early as October 27.

"Every prisoner is eligible 3 days of remission for every month for good behavior and this way, for the 43 months she has served so far, her term would be reduced by 129 days. There is no reason to deny her," Pandian told reporters.
