Chennai, Oct 7 (UNI) Nine Tibetans, who were planning to stage protests ahead of the Indo-China summit meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, were detained by the police on Sunday evening.

Police said those detained included writer and activist Tenzin Tsundue, besides members of Tibetan Youth Congress and Students for Free Tibet-India.

The Tibetans were secured following an alert from the Central intelligence agencies.

While Tenzin, who had planned to unfurl 'Free Tibet' flag at Mamallapuram during the summit this weekend, was arrested from Kottakuppam in Villupuram district, eight others, including six, who have arrived from Delhi, were picked up from the house of two tibetan students studying in a private engineering college at suburban Selaiyur.

While Tenzin was remanded in judicial custody, the other eight Tibetans were being questioned.
