Agra: Dreaded criminal of Rajasthan shot dead by UP police

Agra/UNI: Uttar Pradesh police killed a dreaded criminal of Rajasthan Mukesh Thakur, in an encounter on early Monday morning.

The deceased was recently involved in a robbery at a bank and a petrol pump in the district.
Mukesh was a resident of Basedi in Rajasthan and the UP police had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head.

Mukesh Thakur had been absconding after carrying out the robbery in Canara Bank at Iradatnagar.

According to the police, Mukesh Thakur was arrested along with a colleague on Sunday night. After interrogation, when he was being taken for the recovery of the weapon, when he snatched the pistol of a policeman and started firing and tried to escape.

Mukesh Thakur was shot in retaliatory firing by the police. He was taken to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

A sub-inspector and a constable were also injured in the encounter, who were discharged after treatment.

According to the police, the Mukesh Thakur was wanted in many serious cases not only in Agra but also in Dholpur, Rajasthan. He, along with his accomplices, had committed robbery worth Rs 6.77 lakh by firing in broad daylight at Canara Bank located in Iradatnagar on February 16 last.

IG Range Agra Naveen Arora said here that based on the information given by the informer, Mukesh Thakur was arrested by the police late on Sunday night during the checking. The SOG, Surveillance, and Crime Branch teams were trying to recover the rifle when he snatched the pistol of a policeman and opened fire on them near BSNL Ground in Sadar area.

After firing at the police he started running, when the police team shot him dead.
