After landslide victory, Mamata's first TMC meeting today; major rejig in party likely

Mamata Banerjee, who is also the West Bengal Chief Minister, will hold a core committee meeting at 2 pm and meet her elected representatives an hour later at the Trinamool Bhavan in EM Bypass here.

Political strategist Prashant Kishor, who had worked for the TMC in the 2021 polls, will also be present in the meeting.

As per several media reports, Mamata's parliamentarian nephew and TMC youth wing president Abhishek Banerjee is likely to gain more importance in the party, in the road to the 2024 General Elections.

Abhishek, who was attacked by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders none less than Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the polls, is the party's de facto number two.

It is believed that Abhishek brought a slew of reforms in the TMC since the party suffered a setback in the 2019 General Elections.

In a decentralisation of power, Mamata is also likely to bring a major rejig in the party's administrative ranks by introducing the "one person, one post" system.

By that, a minister will not be eligible to hold any party post in a district.

Above all, eyes will be on what decision the TMC supremo takes regarding the turncoats, who are seeking to return to the partyfold.

Over the last few weeks since Mamata stormed back to power on May 2, turncoats, who switched over to the BJP just before the state polls, have expressed keenness to return to their former party.

BJP MLA Mukul Roy and his son Subhrangshu, who crossed over to the BJP a few years ago, are also speculated to return to the TMC after Abhishek touched down at a Kolkata hospital to enquire about Roy's ailing wife Krishna Roy.

Despite facing a mass exodus of leaders ahead of the polls, the TMC, riding on Mamata's charismatic leadership, won 213 seats as opposed to BJP's 77 in the Mar-Apr polls.
