Activist Teesta Setalvad denied anticipatory bail in Mumbai court

| | Jul 24, 2015, at 08:40 pm
Mumbai, Jul 24 (IBNS) A Mumbai court has refused to grant anticipatory bail for activist Teesta Setalvad, accused of violating foreign exchange laws and misusing the funds donated to her NGO by the US-based Ford Foundation.

The charges brought on him by the Gujarat police also include embezzlement of funds from NGO she runs with her husband Javed Anand.

At an earlier hearing in the court, the CBI  described her as "a threat to national security."

Setalvad has, however, denied all the charges as her lawyer says she is being persecuted for her role in filing cases against the Gujarat Government in connection with the 2002 riots when Narendra Modi was the state's Chief Minister.
