Accident in Visakhapatnam Steel plant, 9 workers hurt

Visakhapatnam: At least nine workers received burn injuries in an accident in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) here on Saturday due to hot slag splashing.

The accident occurred at around 1225 hours in SMS-2 Department, Converter-E, while clearing the track for the movement of struck up Slag Pot, Hot Slag splashed on four employees and five contract workers causing injuries, a statement from VSP said.

All the injured persons were given first aid treatment at Visakha Steel General Hospital and later shifted to Seven Hills Super specialty Hospital for further treatment.

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL)- a corporate entity of VSP, Chairman and Managing Director Atul Bhatt, along with Director (Commercial ) DK Mohanty and other senior officials visited the hospital, where the workers were undergoing treatment and also met their family members.

During his visit, Bhatt also had discussions with doctors for ensuring the best treatment for the injured persons.
