AAP leader Somnath Bharti sent to police custody

New Delhi, Sept 29 (IBNS) AAP leader Somnath Bharti, who has been arrested in connection with the a case of domestic violence and attempt to murder filed by his estranged wife Lipika Mitra, has been sent to 2 day police custody on Tuesday.

He was arrested at around 4 am.

After evading arrest for nearly a week, Bharti surrendered at Dwarka (North) police station on Monday.

Lipika Mitra, whom  Bharti married in 2010, has accused him of beating and torturing her. She has alleged that he once tried to strangle her and unleashed his dog on her  when she was pregnant.

Embarrassed by the happenings that threatens to sully the party's image, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday tweeted: "Somnath shud surrender.Why is he running away?Why is he so scared of gng to jail? Now he is becoming embarrassment for party n his family."
