AAP leader Ashutosh slams NCW chairperson over reaction to his blog on sex tape

New Delhi, Sept 5 (IBNS): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Ashutosh, who defended in a column his former colleague and Delhi minister Sandeep Kumar who was caught in a sex video recently leading to his removal, has been reportedly asked to appear before India's top women rights body National Women Commission (NWC) even as the former journalist said it is time to wind up the state-run commission now headed by a "BJP" member.

After Ashutosh called the act of the former minister as one of consensual sex and not rape, which the former minister is now accused of by the woman in the video, he was rebuked by the NWC headed by Lalitha Kumarmangalam amid reports that he has been summoned on Thursday.

"I hope Lalitha Kumarmangalam, member of BJP Nat Ex/chairman NCW is summoning every writer who wrote about consensual sex.NO pick and choose," he tweeted.

"Lalitha Kumar Manglam Is member of BJP national executive/was national secretary of BJP. If I get notice from NCW, I will react," he said.

"Time to wind up 'sarkari' NCW? Summoning @ashutosh83B over a column? Nothing better to do?" he tweeted.

"Ms Mangalam as a chairperson of NCW, you should not lie on a national TV that u r not BJP member.Wikipedia writes You are still a  Ms Mangalam pl read Wikipedia in picture, took few Mnts back, clearly writes she is member of BJP national Executive," he posted.

"I hope channels are running my reactions on NCW summon. @abpnewshindi @TimesNow @aajtak," tweeted Ashutosh.

Ashutosh in his blog on NDTV wrote that "the sexual act was a private and consensual one, that the media over-reacted to the scandal and exaggerated its import, and that the party sacked Mr Kumar because of  perception management."

Earlier, condemning Ashutosh over his  column, where he equated Mahatma Gandhi with tainted AAP minister Sandeep Kumar, top Congress leaders on Monday held a protest in the national capital.

In his column, written for a media house, Ashutosh wrote, "History is also witness to the fact that top leaders of the Congress in 1910s were worried about Gandhiji's relationship with Sarla Chaudhary, who was distantly related to Rabindra Nath Tagore."

Asutosh said  "Gandhiji had confessed that Sarla was his spiritual wife. Kasturba Gandhi was very disturbed. C Rajagopalchari and other senior leaders of the party had to intervene. They persuaded, pressured, cajoled Gandhiji to leave Sarla. Gandhiji in his later days slept naked with his two nieces to experiment with celibacy. Pandit Nehru had told him not to do so as the country would rise against him but Gandhiji did not budge."

Asutosh's  column was met with severe criticisms, as his effigies were burnt in Gujarat by people who took offence.

Ashutosh also did not find favour from both his colleagues and the party as they distanced themselves from his comment.
