76.76 pct voters' turn out recorded in Assam's second phase polling

Guwahati/IBNS/UNI: The eastern state of Assam recorded a voters turnout of  76.76 per cent in the second phase of Assembly polls till the end of the stipulated time that is 6 pm on Thursday.

The second phase of elections was conducted for 39 Assembly Constituencies in Assam.

"More than 73 lakh electorates across 10,592 Polling Stations are registered to exercise their franchise in this phase, the Election Commission said in a statement.

In the first phase, 47 seats went to polls in the 126-member assembly. The second phase of elections will decide the fate of 345 candidates.

The main contest is seen to be between the alliances led by BJP and Congress.

The BJP-led alliance also includes the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People's Party Liberal (UPPL).

Congress has stitched a broad alliance that includes All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, the Anchalik Gana Marcha (AGM), and the Bodoland Peoples' Front (BPF).

The third and final phase of polls will take place on April 6.
