72.14 pc voter turnout in first phase of Assam assembly polls

Guwahati/IBNS: Assam recorded 72.14 per cent voter turnout till 6 pm in the first phase of three-phased assembly elections, media reports said.

This figure may change after the Election Commission of India updates the latest data.

Voters came out in large numbers in all the 47 seats in upper Assam where voting started from 7 am.

Biswanath district reported the highest 77.16 per cent voter turnout while Charaideo district reported 73.29 per cent and Dhansiri 70.76 per cent.

Rupohihat assembly constituency reported 83 per cent voting while Nazira had 64 per cent voter turnout.
