Guwahati, May 2 (IBNS): Local people in  Assam’s Goalpara district on Wednesday found 6 suspected ISIS flags, with ‘IS NE’ written on them, being hoisted by unknown persons on the river bank near the Goalpara town police outpost, reports said.

According to the reports, the local people, who were out for morning walk on the river bank, found the black coloured flags with ‘IS NE’ written on them in Arabic language.

'IS NE' might be the short form for Islamic State North East, police said.

Following the incident, local people informed police and police later took down the flags from the area.

However, it is still not known that who hoisted the flags in the area.

A local person, who found the flags, said: "When we noticed it, we immediately informed the police about the flags."

“We had noticed that six black colour flags with IS NE written on them were hoisted here. We immediately informed police and police took the flags down,” a local person told IBNS.

Meanwhile, police have started investigation into the matter.

The Intelligence Bureau (IB) alerted Assam and other NE states that some Islamic terror groups are planning to establish their base and footprints in the region.
