Bengaluru/IBNS: Six persons, including two women, all believed to be illigal immigrants from Bangladesh, have been arrested in connection with the brutal torture and gang-rape of a woman, after a video of the crime went viral, eliciting a massive outrage.

Police said the victim and her perpetrators are immigrants from Bangladesh.

The woman, who is in her twenties, can be seen getting tortured by the accused in a bloodcurdling video. The accused even inserted a bottle in her private parts, the video showed. She was later gangraped.

The incident took place in Bengaluru nearly six days ago.

"Based of the contents of the video clip and facts as disclosed during the interrogation of the accused persons, a case of rape, assault and other relevant provisions of the law, has been generated against the accused," tweeted Kamal Pant, Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru City

"As per information revealed so far, all of them are part of the same group and believed to be from Bangladesh. Due to financial differences, the culprits brutalised the victim who is also said to be a Bangladeshi, brought to India for human trafficking," the top cop added.

"The investigation is being carried with full earnestness and under the supervision of senior officers," he assured.

According to media reports, Bengaluru Police has said that the victim is currently in another state and her statement would be taken once she arrives.

An NDTV report said, the video triggered massive resentment against the accused, especially in the northeast part of the country, as they thought that the survivor was from that part of the country.

Assam police had also sought information about the accused.
