35 people in Noida spend 3 days in COVID-19 ward due to botched up tests
Noida/IBNS: Thirty-five people in Noida were forced to spend three days in the COVID-19 ward of a hospital after private labs allegedly botched up their virus test reports.
While one lab has been charged with an FIR, others were sent notices by the Noida administration.
The Noida Health Department has also initiated an investigation where it was revealed that 35 people had consulted private doctors with complaints of mild fever, cough and cold.
The doctors had reportedly asked them to undergo coronavirus tests after which all of them turned to private labs.
All 35 patients tested positive for coronavirus as per the lab results. Following this, they were sent to government quarantine facilities.
Later when the samples were retested at the National Institute of Virology, all 35 tested negative.
They have been discharged but kept under watch.
Investigations revealed there were lapses in sample collection by these private lab employees. The samples were allegedly not kept in optimum temperature which led to inaccurate results.
These private labs, charging Rs 4,500 to 5,000 for each test, violated the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) guidelines for sample examination, the Noida Health Department probe observed.
It further added that action would be taken based on how the labs responded to the notice.
