30 cases registered against foreigners for overstaying in Goa this year

Panaji, Jul 30 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday informed state assembly that 30 cases were registered against foreigners for overstaying in state till June this year.

In a written reply in response to a question tabled by Thivim MLA Nilkanth Harlarnkar, Dr Sawant, who also holds Home Portfolio, said out of 30, cases were registered in south Goa while 28 cases were registered in Noth Goa.

The Chief Minister said 52 cases were registered against foreigners for overstaying in 2018, 55 cases in 2017 and 32 cases in 2016. He said five foreigners were deported to their respective countries by FRRO (Foreigner Regional Registration Office) till July 14 this year, while six foreigners were deported in 2018, nine in 2017 and six in 2016.

''Whenever foreigners are found staying beyond their visa, action against such foreigners is taken by the Police Department under appropriate sections of law. Upon disposal of the case and if convicted the foreign national is issued with deportation order under section 3(2) (c) of Foreigners Act 1946,'' he said.

He said from January 1, 2016, to July 14, 2019, total 26 foreign nationals were deported by FRRO, Goa.
