Srinagar, Oct 29 (IBNS): At least three hard-core foreign terrorists have been killed on Wednesday after a fierce encounter with the Army jawans in Jammu & Kashmir’s Handwara.

In the ongoing operation in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, which started on Monday, the Army neutralized three hard core foreign Terrorists and recovered three AK-47 Rifles besides a large amount of warlike stores.

Army sources said, the slain terrorists belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant organization.

The terrorists were eliminated in the higher reaches of Wadarbala forest.

Due to the dense forest the visibility was highly limited, further restricted by the heavy rain and dense fog.

The group was carefully tracked and cordoned off well before they could merge with the population.

Army sources said contact with the terrorist group took place on Monday, 27 Oct which ensued into a brief but intense firefight.

Intermittent exchange of fire continued over the next 24 hours.

On 28 Oct during the search of the area, the terrorists opened heavy automatic fire which was immediately retaliated by the Jawans.

In the exchange of fire Nb Sub Rajesh Kumar, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of Rashtriya Rifles made the supreme sacrifice on Tuesday, having suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

The operation continued Wednesday when three foreign terrorists were neutralized at around 1200 hours.

The search of the thickly forested areas is still on to flush out the remaining militants.

The killing of three heavily armed foreign terrorists of the LeT clearly establishes the robustness of the counter infiltration and counter terrorist grid of the Army.
