13-yr old raped by school mates in West Bengal

Bolpur, West Bengal, June 2 (IBNS) A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her school seniors in Birbhum district of West Bengal in a tribal area on May 29 last, sparking yet another row of a possible kangaroo court trying to adjudicate the matter locally.

The girl was taken near a pond and raped by three school seniors. Later when her father approached a local village head they set up a kangaoroo court and asked the accused boys to give the girl's family rice or rice liquor as penalty, said reports.

However, the father approached the police with his daughter. Arrests are being made, said reports.

The police FIR of the girl's father did not mention kangaroo court though, said reports.

In Birbhum district a woman was raped by about 13 men in January at the behest of a kangaroo court for her love affair with a man outside the community, sending shock waves across the nation.
