Vidisha/IBNS: Eleven bodies were recovered till the end of the relief and rescue operation in Madhya Pradesh's Vidisha district where 30 people had fallen into an approximately 50-feet-deep well while trying to save a boy.

Nineteen people who fell into the well at Lal Patar village in Vidisha district's Ganj Basoda area have been safely rescued so far.

Expressing "anguish", Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a financial assistance of ₹ 2 lakh each for the families of those who died.

"Anguished by the tragedy in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh. My condolences to the bereaved families. An ex-gratia of ₹ 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives: PM @narendramodi," the official handle of PMO tweeted.

Earlier, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan informed that those rescued are undergoing treatment for their injuries at hospitals in Vidisha and Basoda.

The Chief Minister also announced in a Twitter post that the families of those who died in the incident will be provided a compensation of ₹ 5 lakh each.

The state government will take the responsibility of the treatment of those injured and provide each of them with an assistance of ₹ 50,000.

Chouhan even assured that the government will assist the affected families in every possible way in the future.

The incident happened when the underground structure’s cement roof – partially covering it – collapsed on Tuesday night and a net gave way while locals were attempting to bring out a minor.

The National and State Disaster Response Forces’ personnel were called in for the rescue action.

By 10 pm on Thursday, 15 victims were rescued and admitted at an infirmary in Ganj Basoda.

The mission was affected after some team members and machinery also fell into roughly 20-ft-deep water when soil collapsed. Providentially, they were brought out.
