10 die in UP bus-truck collision, PM Modi, Yogi Adityanath announce ex-gratia
Lakhimpur Kheri/UNI: Ten persons were killed and more than two dozen others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on Pilibhit-Basti road here in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, police sources said here.
President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief over the incident. The PM has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
PM Modi tweeted, "Distressed by the accident in Lakhimpur Kheri, UP. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly. Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000."

The President tweeted, "Deeply saddened by the news of the death of many people in a road accident in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. I express my deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones in this accident and wish the injured a speedy recovery."
Expressing grief over the incident Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the officials to provide all possible help to the victims. He has also announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
Police sources said that the incident occurred around 8.30 am when the bus going towards Lucknow from Dhaurahra collided with the truck coming from the opposite direction near the Sharda river bridge.
"Six persons were killed on the spot in the accident," they said.
Police sources said that the victims have been identified as Sageer (45), Surendra Kumar Chaurasia (35), Ajeemum (55), Saraswati Chandra (94), Munnu Mishra (16) and Arya Nigam (8), all residents of Dhaurahra.
"Four persons, who sustained serious injuries, were referred to King George Medical College, Lucknow for treatment," they said.
Police sources said that while Home Guard Kaushal Kishore (58) and Jitendra Rastogi died while being taken to Lucknow, two more Zuberia (5) and a 35-year-old unidentified woman succumbed to injuries at KGMU. "23 injured are being treated locally," they said.
Senior officers, including Divisional Commissioner Roshan Jacob and District Magistrate Mahendra Bahadur Singh, visited the hospital and met the injured.
During her visit, Jacob directed the officials to ensure proper treatment of the victims.
