Kashmir: Retired doctor dies due to Covid-19, toll rises to 54

A 74-year-old retired doctor, a resident of Srinagar, died due to Covid-19 in a hospital here on Saturday morning, taking the death toll in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to 54.

With this, 18 people have lost their lives due to infection in nine days, and 39 people died in 25 days in J&K, where the Covid-19 positive cases have surpassed 4,600-mark.

Official sources said that a patient was admitted to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Bemina on June 2 after testing positive for Covid-19.

"The patient was suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD),” they said, adding the retired doctor from Parraypora in Srinagar was on ventilator.

Adding more than 10,000 fresh Novel Coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, India, the country of 1.3 billion people, surpassed the United Kingdom to become the fourth worst-hit country in terms of Covid-19 infections.

India reported 10,956 fresh cases between Thursday and Friday mornings to push the overall tally to 2,97,535 including 8,498 deaths.

The UK, which is now placed at fifth position in the list of countries affected due to Covid, has so far reported 2,92,860 cases, according to John Hopkins University & Medicine data.

India, which has a poor health infrastructure, is now behind the United States, Brazil and Russia.

Witnessing another day of massive spike in COVID-19 cases, India reported 10,956 additional infected patients in the past 24 hours.

This is the highest single-day spike in cases so far.

The total number of cases in the country now stands at 297535.

It includes 141842 active cases.

So far, 147194 have been cured or discharged from hospital.

The death toll due to the disease now stands at 8498.

India not in community transmission stage: ICMR

Despite the steady rise in Covid-19 cases, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Thursday claimed India, the country of 1.3 billion people with a huge number of them belonging to below-poverty level, was not in the community transmission stage.

ICMR DG Prof. Balram Bhargava told a press briefing here, "India is not in community transmission. We have to continue with our strategy of testing, tracing, tracking, quarantine and containment measures and we should not give up our guard on these."

The ICMR has also claimed India's mortality rate per lakh population is among the lowest in the world.

Health Ministry's joint secretary Lav Agarwal has said the symptomatic or suspected Covid patients should get in touch with the respective states' helpline numbers.

"Symptomatic persons or a suspect case should get in touch with states' helpline numbers and try to access the hospital facilities as advised. In addition to this, we have requested the states to streamline the helpline system and provide guidance," Agarwal said.

India adds almost 10,000 fresh Covid cases, sees biggest single-day spike

Adding almost 10,000 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, India, the country of 1.3 billion people, on Thursday witnessed the biggest jump in the number of infections.

With the report of 9,996 new cases, the Covid tally in India has now touched 2,86,579 including 1,41,029 cured and 8,102 deaths.

For the first time on Wednesday since the outbreak of Covid in India in late January, the recovered cases surpassed the active ones which are 1,37,448 on Thursday.

Youth succumbs in UP's Bareilly

A COVID-19 positive youth, hailing from this Uttar Pradesh district, succumbed to the infection while receiving treatment in Bareilly.

The youth, who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, had come to Badaun after running from a Delhi hospital. After registering a case against the youth under the Epidemic Act, the district administration had admitted him to a Bareilly hospital for treatment, two days ago.

However, the patient succumbed to the infection, late Tuesday night.

12 migrant workers test positive in UP's Siddharthnagar

With 12 migrant labourers returning from other states testing positive for the novel coronavirus, the total number of patients increased to 163 in this Uttar Pradesh district on Wednesday.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Seema Rai said that all the workers, who tested positive, had been home quarantined upon their return.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday avoided any friction with the Centre and Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal during the Covid-19 crisis by announcing the implementation of not reserving Delhi hospitals for the residents of the national capital.

Kejriwal told a press conference, "The decision of reserving hospitals for the residents of Delhi was overturned by the central government and LG on Monday. This is not the time for disagreement. We will implement the decision of the central government and LG."

23 new corona cases identified in Nashik

As many as 23 new corona positive cases were identified in Nashik in a single day on Tuesday, taking the tally of infected patients to 1,653.

Of total 118 swab samples investigated in last 24 hours, 95 were negative while 23 tested positive.

Among the new additions, 14 are from Nashik city, 5 from Nashik Rural, 3 from Malegaon and 1 outsider, the latest report from district administration said here.
Meanwhile, there were 3 reported deaths in the district today, pushing the toll due to the contagion to 102.

While, 27 corona infected patients were recovered and discharged today, bringing the overall number of recovered patients to 1,093.

The COVID-19 pandemic is worsening globally, with more than 136,000 cases recorded on Sunday: the highest number in a single day, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).



“More than six months into this pandemic, this is not the time for any country to take its foot off the pedal”, said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, speaking on Monday during his regular briefing on the crisis.

"Almost 7 million cases of #COVID19 have now been reported to WHO, and almost 400,000 deaths.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal unwell, to undergo Covid-19 test tomorrow

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will on Tuesday undergo a Covid-19 test as he is suffering from cough and fever since Sunday afternoon.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the CM has quarantined himself and cancelled all his meetings after he felt unwell on Sunday afternoon.

"As per doctor's advice, the CM will undergo a Covid test tomorrow. We are praying that he gets well soon and actively works for Delhi people as he was doing," said Sisodia.

West Bengal: 435 new cases reported, tally now 7,738

Pakistan surpasses China in Covid-19 cases, tally now over 89,000

With a record 4,688 fresh cases reported in 24 hours between Wednesday and Thursday, Pakistan surpassed China, the epicentre of the pandemic Coronavirus, in terms of Covid-19 cases.

In the next 24 hours between Thursday and Friday, Pakistan registered another 4,000 cases to take the tally to 89,249, as per John Hopkins University & Medicine.

The number of infections in China now stand at 84,171.

China is placed at the 18th position, one step behind the South Asian country of Pakistan.

Afghanistan reports 915 new cases

Afghanistan on Friday reported 915 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases, taking the country's total to 18,969, the country's Ministry of Public Health said.

Within the past 24 hours, 1,570 tests were conducted, and 915 were positive cases, the ministry said in a statement.

65-yr-old woman succumbs in Kashmir, toll rises to 36

A 65-year-old woman from Srinagar, who died at a hospital in this summer capital last evening, tested positive for COVID-19, taking the death toll due to the infection in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to 36.

With this, 14 persons have lost their lives due to the infection during the last 10 days and 22 people in 18 days in J&K, where the COVID-19 positive cases have surpassed 2,900 mark.

India witnesses another major spike in COVID-19 cases

India witnessed another day of massive spike in the number of COVID-19 cases with  9,851 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, as per data released by the Ministry of Health on Friday.

The death toll due to the highly infectious disease now stands at  6,348.

India has registered 2,26,770 cases so far.

In the past 24 hours, 273 people have died.

According to Ministry released figures, the number of active cases in the country now stands at 110960.

So far, 109461 people have recovered from COVID-19 in India.

Palghar reports 42 fresh Covid-19 cases

With an addition of 42 Covid-19 cases in Palghar on Thursday, the overall number of positive patients in the district stood at 1,002, a report issued by the administration stated.

The tehsil-wise break-up of total positive cases in the district is as such 50 in Palghar, 24, in Dahanu, 2 in Jawhar, 6 in Wada, 42 in Vasai Rural and 878 in Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation limits.

While 558 are still being treated, 412 were discharged after recovery.

Of total 33 deaths reported in the district so far, 29 were in VVMC Limits, the report stated.

India registers over 9,000 Covid cases in 24 hours, tally now close to 2.17 lakhs

India on Thursday registered the biggest daily spike in the Covid-19 cases with the report of 9,304 new infections in the last  24 hours taking the tally of Novel Coronavirus close to 2.17 lakhs.

As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data, India's Covid tally touched 2,16,919 cases.

6,075 people have died due to the pandemic virus which has no vaccine as of yet.

Maharashtra, the worst-hit state, has recorded the maximum number of cases (74,860) followed by Tamil Nadu (25,872), Delhi (23,645) and Gujarat (18,100).

Manipur: Covid-19 cases increase to 102

The total number of Covid-19 positive cases has increased to 102 and the number of active cases to 76 in Manipur.

Last night, 13 persons (7 males, 6 females) were confirmed as COVID 19 positive at the VRDLs of RIMS (2) and JNIMS ( 11 ). They were from Bishnupur (1), Churachandpur (1), Senapati (3), Tamenglong (2), Tengnoupal (4) and Ukhrul (2) districts. The two persons from Bishnupur, Churachandpur and the two from Tamenglong are returnees from Chennai.

Three persons from Senapati are returnees from Mumbai while the four from Tengnoupal are returnees from Delhi.

Assam: 60 new cases takes Covid tally to 1621

The Covid-19 count in Assam rose by 60 on Wednesday, taking the overall figure to 1621.

Among the new cases, 38 are from Dhubri and 18 from Golaghat. Four have been confirmed from Nagaon.

 

India ranks 7th worst Covid-affected country adding over 8,000 new cases

Reporting more than 8,000 new cases in the last 24 hours, India on Tuesday ranked the seventh worst Covid-19-affected country in the world.

As per both Indian Health Ministry's data and John Hopkins University & Medicine, the vast country of 1.3 billion people has reported 8,171 new cases between Monday and Tuesday mornings, taking the Covid tally to 1,98,706.

Out of the total infected patients, little less than 50 per cent (95,527 people) have been discharged or cured while 5,598 people have lost their lives due to the contagion.

India, which comprises 36 states and union territories, is behind Italy that has reported 2,33,197 cases so far.

The worst affected country still remains the United States with 18,11,357 cases followed by Brazil, Russia, United Kingdom and Spain.

Despite racing to the seventh spot in terms of the infected cases, India ranks 13th if the mortality rate is considered.

The country which ranks first in terms of mortality rate is once again the US.

Arvind Kejriwal seeks people's advice over Delhi border reopening, opens shops in Unlock 1.0

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday sought advices from people whether it would be a wise decision to reopen the borders of the national capital as India entered into the first phase of unlocking socio-economic activities.

"The Delhi government needs your suggestion over a very important topic. Will Delhi border be reopened? Should we allow people from the rest of the country to avail our hospitals?" asked the CM.

People can send their advices through Whatsapp, emails or voice messages till Friday.

Besides seeking advices from people, Kejriwal on Monday announced the reopening of all shops including barber shops, salons, parlours but not spa.

Assam has reported 22 new cases of Covid-19. The cases have been reported from Dibrugarh (14), Dhemaji (4), Tinsukia (3), Charaideo (1). The tally has now increased to 1,361.

 

Assam sets target to conduct 2 lakh tests for Covid-19 by Jun 15

After completing 1 lakh samples test for Covid-19, Assam has now set a target to conduct 2 lakh tests by Jun 15.

Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, Assam has crossed a milestone by conducting 1 lakh samples test for Covid-19.

Biswa Sarma said, "The state has tested 1,04,083 samples for COVID-19 as of May 31 and the state has convincingly bypassed Kerala. In the month of March, the state had sent samples to NIV, Pune for testing, but within a month, the state has tested 1 lakh samples with its own resources.

During the time, 12,732 samples have been tested at Jorhat Medical College Hospital, 9111 at Silchar Medical College Hospital, 22,000 at Guwahati Medical College Hospital, 5100 at Assam Medical College Hospital, 12,450 at Tezpur Medical College Hospital, 22,000 at Barpeta Medical College Hospital and 12,905 samples have been tested at Regional Medical Research Centre, Lahowal. Apart from it 4033 samples have been tested in outsources laboraties."

India witnessed yet another day of massive surge in the number of COVID-19 positive cases with the figure now standing at 190535, as per Ministry of health data released.

The country on Sunday witnessed the addition of 8,392 new COVID-19 cases.

The death toll due to the highly infectious disease now stands at 5394.

So far, the number of active cases in the country is 93322 and 91818 have recovered from the disease.
