US President Donald Trump on Saturday informed that he has requested Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to supply hydroxychloroquine tablets, which has evolved to be a potent drug at present in treating the novel Coronavirus creating pandemic across the world.


Speaking during a press conference on Coronavirus Task Force at the White House, Trump said: "After call today with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is giving serious consideration to releasing the hold it put on a US order for hydroxychloroquine."

As the entire world is reeling under the threat from the outbreak of novel coronavirus, which had its outbreak in China's Wuhan last December, the United States currently has the maximum number of COVID-19 positive patients.

Twelve persons, who returned here after attending the Nizamuddin congregation, have tested COVID-19 negative, authorities informed on Saturday.

Presently, the district has no confirmed cases.

Out of the 14 persons who returned here after attending the congregation, twelve were traced and efforts are underway to track down the remaining two.

Meanwhile, an individual has tested positive for the pandemic in the neighbouring Hingoli district.

One more death, 10 new cases in Gujarat, 4 recovered

Gujarat has reported one more death and ten new cases of Novel Coronavirus (Covid 19) infection in last 12 hours taking the overall positive cases to 105, including the 10 deaths and 14 recoveries so far.

A 67-year-old woman with a history of respiratory illness and Asthma died in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

Five of the ten new cases have been found in Ahmedabad where so far, the maximum of 43 total cases, including five recoveries and as many deaths, have been reported. Four more patients have recovered in the last 12 hours. Of those recovered in the last 12 hours, three were in Gandhinagar and one in Vadodara.

Principal Secretary Health, Jayanti Ravi said of the ten new cases apart from five in Ahmedabad, two each were in Gandhinagar and Bhavnagar and one in Patan district. Of these, five were women. One of the 10 had travel history to Mumbai. Of the 81 active cases in the state none was on ventilator and all were stable.

So far a total of 2139 tests have been conducted.

The total number of COVID-19 infections in India reached to 2,301 on Friday morning, with three fresh casualties and 228 new Coronavirus cases reported across the country till Thursday evening.

According to the health ministry, the total number of confirmed cases on Thursday evening was 2,069.

The death toll has gone up to a total of 56 so far while the active cases in the country at present stand at 2088, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, government data states that 156 people have been cured so far and one person has migrated.

Third patient tests positive in Dharavi

Third positive case was reported on Friday in Asia's largest slum area in Mumbai's Dharavi in as many days.

The country's financial capital Mumbai is among the virus hotspots.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state, with 335 positive cases and 13 deaths till Friday morning.

The patient's family was put on isolation and will be tested for the virus later in the day.

Amid the spread of the deadly COVID-19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday interacted with various sportspersons giving them "five point mantra" to tackle the pandemic virus.

Modi interacted with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, Indian cricket board president Sourav Ganguly, Women's Hockey team captain Rani Rampal, badminton player PV Sindhu, Kabaddi player and DSP in Himanchal Pradesh Police Ajay Thakur, sprinter Hima Das, para athlete high jumper Sharad Kumar, tennis player Ankita Raina, former cricketer Yuvraj Singh and India's Men’s cricket team captain Virat Kohli via video conference.

The Prime MInister said that COVID-19 is an adversary of the entire humanity and the gravity of the situation can be ascertained from the fact that for the first time since World War II, the Olympics has been postponed. 

Praising the sportspersons for bringing glory to the nation through stellar performances on the field, he said, "Now they have a very important role to play in boosting the morale of the nation as well as spreading the message of social distancing along with asking people to continuously follow advisories given during lockdown."

The Prime Minister has asked them to include the following five points in their message to people: ‘sankalp’ to fight the pandemic, ‘sanyam’ to follow social distancing, ‘sakaratmakta’ to maintain positivity, ‘samman’ to respect the frontline soldiers in this battle including the medical fraternity, the police personnel etc and ‘sahyog’ at personal level as well as at national level through contribution to PM-CARES fund.

He also asked them to highlight the importance of both physical and mental fitness and also popularise guidelines released by AYUSH Ministry.

Amid the 21-day lockdown owing to the COVID-19 outbreak, when all domestic and international flight operations are suspended, Air India on Thursday said it will operate 18 flights for citizens of Germany, Canada, France, Ireland who are stranded in India.

The airline said that the initiative has been taken on the request of concerned embassies.

Issuing a statement, Air India said that it has entered into commercial contracts with various countries to run charter flights for their citizens.

Need strategy to ensure staggered movement of people after lockdown ends: Modi to CMs

Almost confirming that the nationwide lockdown won't be extended post Apr 14 midnight, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asked the states to make a strategy to ensure the "staggered" movement of people once the shutdown period ends.

Modi, during a video conference with the Chief Ministers and administrators of various states on Novel Coronavirus , said as quoted by NDTV, "It is important to formulate a common exit strategy to ensure staggered re-emergence of the population once the lockdown ends."

Being accompanied by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, who were sitting in a room maintaining the social distancing norm, Prime Minister Modi said certain restrictions must be in place even after the 21-day lockdown ends.

The Prime Minister has also asked the Chief Ministers to identify the "hotspots" and "encircle" them to contain infection.

Thirteen Tablighi Jamaat people quarantined in Uttar Pradesh

As many as 13 people of Tablighi Jamaat have been quarantined following a medical check-up in a vacant building in this district of Uttar Pradesh.

Information regarding whether they attended the 'Markaz' in New Delhi's Nizamuddin area is being ascertained.

Official sources on Thursday said that out of these 13 people, 11 hail from Shamli while the other two are from Telangana. They had arrived from Shamli about 15 days ago and after staying in a mosque in Auraiyya, had also put up in other mosques in the Khanpur town.

Following the lockdown, the group has stayed at the Quraishiyan mosque.

Sources said that during a probe that was initiated in the district after the Nizamuddin 'Markaz, news surfaced. It was learnt that that Tablighi Jamaat people were staying in the Khanpur town.

On the directions of District Magistrate (DM) Abhishek Singh, CMO Archana Srivastava had all these people thermally scanned wherein everyone was found to be normal.

Following the medical check-up, they were quarantined in a vacant building in the Khanpur town where they will be monitored for 14 days.

Suspected Coronavirus patient commits suicide in UP

A suspected Novel Coronavirus patient committed suicide at a hospital in this Uttar Pradesh district on Thursday.

District Magistrate (DM) Jasjit Kaur said that the 40-year-old patient had been admitted to a hospital on March 31 after symptoms of Coronavirus were found in him.

The DM said that the patient, a resident of the Kandhala area, was in depression after coming to the hospital. He had been admitted to the isolation ward.

He committed suicide by hanging himself, this morning. The sample of the suspect had been sent for testing but the report is yet to arrive.

Notably, a 'lipik' had allegedly committed suicide over fears related to the Coronavirus, two days back here.

Ex-Servicemen mobilised to fight COVID-19 pandemic

In order to augment the Nation’s fight against the global pandemic Coronavirus, the Defence Ministry on Thursday took an initiative to mobilise services of Ex-Servicemen (ESM) community as a part of augmentation of precious human resource to assist the State and District administration, wherever required.

"Rajya Sainik Boards and Zila Sainik Boards are playing a dynamic role in identifying and mobilising maximum ESM volunteers to assist the State and District Administration in performing public outreach activities such as contact tracing, community surveillance, management of quarantine facilities or any such tasks assigned to them," the ministry said in a statement.

It is heartening to note the ex-servicemen across the country have risen to the occasion of ‘Service before Self' at a time when nation has made a clarion call and need them to fight this unique challenge, it added.

Ex-servicemen are disciplined, motivated and well trained to operate in adverse situations and they have pan-India presence in all the districts and villages, the ministry said.

Coronavirus cases continue to jump in India amid hunt for Delhi mosque attendees

India continued to witness a huge jump in positive Novel Coronavirus cases on Wednesday, the eighth day of the nationwide lockdown, while various state governments are toiling to track the attendees of a Delhi mosque event which has triggered a fear of further surge in the pandemic virus.

As per the update at 12:30 pm, 1718 people including 53 deaths and 155 cured have been reported in the country of 1.3 billion people.

Among 28 states and eight union territories, Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of positive COVID-19 cases (320) followed by the southern state of Kerala (241) which had recorded the first Coronavirus case in the country weeks ago.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in West Bengal has mounted to 37 as swab samples of eight persons, who are currently undergoing treatment at different hospitals, were found Covid-19 positive, officials said on Tuesday late night. Two persons died during the day taking the death toll in the state to five.

According to reports, two men, aged 62 years and 57 years, died in Kolkata's N.R.S. Medical College and Hospital, and Howrah ILS hospital respectively on Tuesday and their swab samples were found positive for novel coronavirus later at night.

Several international experts and think thank groups have appreciated Indian PM Narendra Modi's 21-day lockdown move to combat COVID-19 outbreak in India with many calling the process as a step in the right direction.

Amsterdam-based think- tank, the European Foundation for South Asian Studies (EFSAS) called Modi's decision as 'good'.

Speaking to ANI news agency, an activist from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) Dr Amjad Ayub Mirza praised Modi's 21-day lockdown and said the situation in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Gilgit Baltistan is deteriorating because people are not following social distancing and norms of complete lockdown. 

COVID-19 positive cases cross 300-mark in Maharashtra

 Raising concern and threat, Maharashtra on Tuesday reported 72 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the state to 302.

Out of the total 72 positive cases reported on Tuesday itself, 59 were from Mumbai, three form Ahmednagar while rest of the 13 cases emerged from Pune, Thane, Kalyan-Domiwali, new Mumbai and Vashi, Health Department confirmed.


So far, the state of Maharashtra has reported the highest number of cases in India, followed by Kerala.

Covid19: West Bengal on lookout for 73 people from state who attended mosque gathering in Delhi's Nizamuddin

After at least 24 people evacuated from Markaz Nizamudding were found positive for Covid-19, West Bengal government has directed its authorities to trace out and isolate all the people who had reportedly attended Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi's Nizamuddin weeks ago, officials said on Tuesday.

Sources in the state government said that at least 73 people from different districts of West Bengal had joined the religious event at Markaz Nizamuddin, which recorded the footfalls of more than 2000 people from different states as well as countries between Mar 13 and 15, and most of them had returned to their homes.

"It has been directed to trace out all those people as soon as possible and isolate them immediately," the source said.

Indian Railway to modify 20,000 coaches to accommodate 32,000 beds for isolation needs

The Indian Railways has decided to modify 20,000 coaches into isolation coaches to augment the quarantine facilities being created in the country as part of COVID-19 preparedness.

In this connection consultations were held with Armed Forces Medical Services, Medical Department of various Zonal Railways, and Ayushman Bharat, Ministry of Health, Government of India.

Five Zonal Railways have already prepared prototypes for the quarantine coaches.

The modified coaches can accommodate upto 320,000 possible beds for isolation needs. Work on modification of 5,000 coaches, which are to be converted initially into quarantine/isolation coaches has already started.

Russia registers 500 new cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours

Russia has registered 500 new cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, which brings the total number of cases in the country to 2,337, the country's operational headquarters for preventing the spread of coronavirus said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Over the past 24 hours, the number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus infection in 24 regions in Russia is 500," the statement read.

The capital city Moscow alone has has registered 387 new cases of COVID-19, according to the statement.

In addition, eight patients have died from the disease in Moscow, St.Petersburg, the Vladimir region and the Penza region over the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of dead in the country to 17.

So far, 73 regions across the country have been hit by the disease and 121 patients have been discharged from hospitals.

Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday that it will close its border gates and border crossings with Laos and Cambodia starting from Wednesday in an effort to limit the spread of the COVID-19 in the country.

Cambodia has denied entry to Vietnamese citizens since March 20 and Laos has banned entry at all of its international borders until April 19, according to the ministry.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on March 29 announced the suspension of all inbound flights into the country for the next two weeks in an effort to better control the COVID-19 outbreak.

Vietnam has reported 204 cases of COVID-19 infection with 55 cured as of Tuesday afternoon.

Delhi govt identifies more than 20,000 homes for home quarantine, says LG Baijal

Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Tuesday informed that more than 20,000 homes have been identified by the Delhi Government for home quarantine as part of the steps being taken to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Baijal held a video conference meeting with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Dev, Police Commissioner and other officials and discussed about steps being taken in Delhi to contain spread of Coronavirus.

 

India witnesses steep rise in COVID-19 cases amid lockdown, tally now at 1,417

India is witnessing a steep rise in the number of Novel Coronavirus cases, which has already crossed 1,400, as the vast country of 28 states and eight union territories entered the seventh day of a massive three-week lockdown on Tuesday.

According to the last update, 1,417 people including 43 deceased and 144 cured have been tested positive with COVID-19 which has engulfed almost all parts of the country of 1.3 billion people.

24 people in Delhi test positive for COVID-19 after a mosque event, 7 die

Twenty-four people have tested positive for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) while seven died in the national capital of India following a mass gathering of Tableeghi Jamaat preachers at a religious event which was held at Alami Markaz Banglewali Masjid in Nizamuddin here, media reports said.

Over 300 people, who were present at the event, were earlier admitted to different hospitals across the city.

The gathering, which took place in mid-March, hosted visitors from Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Kyrgyzstan.

Taking swift action immediately after the incident came to light, the Delhi government- headed by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal- had ordered a First Information Report (FIR) against Maulana of Markaz, Nizamuddin though the Delhi Police falls under the central government ruled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal on Tuesday held a a high-level meeting over the issue. Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain and other officials were present in the meeting.

Even as the Indian government said the country is witnessing only 'local transmission' of the COVID-19 disease at present, the number of infected cases took a steep rise on Monday to reach 1315 and deaths mounted to 36, as per update at 9:45 pm.

According to the latest tally, India presently has 1156 active cases of Novel Coronavirus while 123 people have recovered.

In Delhi alone, a jump of 25 cases has been recorded in the past 24 hours. The number of infected cases in the national capital stands at 97.

Coronavirus: 300 people admitted in hospital after Delhi mosque gathering

Over 300 people in Delhi have been admitted to different hospitals across the city after a gathering at a mosque which hosted visitors from Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Kyrgyzstan.

This comes as a man died and 10 more have tested positive for COVID-19 after attending the event earlier this month.

Following the death, people started worrying about infection spread from the gathering of Tableeghi Jamaat preachers at Alami Markaz Banglewali Masjid in Nizamuddin in mid-March.

The Indian government on Monday said reports that the 21-day lockdown period to fight COVID 19 might be extended is 'baseless'.

COVID 19 death rate likely to hit its peak in 2 weeks: Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump on Sunday said the highest peak of the death rate due to COVID 19 outbreak in the country is likely to hit in the next two weeks.

The President also announced that all federal coronavirus guidelines such as social distancing will be extended across the nation until at least Apr 30.

He had earlier hinted that all restrictions might be relaxed as early as during Easter.

Easter this year will be observed in mid-April.

COVID 19 claims 29 lives in India, West Bengal reports second death

The COVID 19 outbreak in India has claimed 29 lives so far, officials said on Monday.

More than 1000 people are infected by the virus.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare also announced that 99 people have been cured or discharged from the hospital.

Meanwhile, West Bengal on Monday reported its second COVID 19 death.

A 44-year old woman died in Kalimpong city. She died just two days after testing positive for the COVID 19.

The Indian government on Monday said it has no plans of extending the 21-day nationwide lockdown and denied all the rumors.
