Kolkata, June 24 (IBNS): DAV Model School, Durgapur in India's West Bengal and Belfry High School of Kentucky in USA have been selected as the winners in a project on water quality launched last year by the US Consulate General in Kolkata.

The U.S. Consulate General Kolkata, in collaboration with University of Kentucky and Association of Social and Environmental Development (ASED), had launched a project “Exploring Water Quality in Eastern India and Kentucky” last year to develop global citizens who pursue environmental protection as part of their civic responsibility.

Ten schools in Eastern India and twelve schools in Kentucky participated in the project.

These submissions were judged by an expert panel and DAV Model School, Durgapur and Belfry High School, Kentucky were selected as the winners.

The participating schools were matched, based on geography and demographics to study water quality in their communities through University of Kentucky’s three online modules.

Based on these online modules, students developed research proposals.

Students from Belfry High School of Kentucky visited Kolkata from June 20 to 23, 2018.

Earlier in April, the students of DAV Model School, Durgapur travelled to Kentucky to present their project at the Southeast Geologic Society of America conference.

American Center Director Jamie Dragon, said, “while we were celebrating the end of the formal program, the teams from each school all have ongoing plans to continue their efforts to create more awareness about water quality issues in their communities. We hope through these types of efforts participants will take up leadership roles‎ championing for positive social change regarding water quality and conservation.”
