Windows 365 Link: Microsoft unveils its first cloud-based PC at Ignite 2024

Washington/IBNS: American multinational computer technology Microsoft Corporation at its annual technology showcase, Ignite 2024, introduced Windows 365 Link, a compact and lightweight cloud-based PC designed to deliver a seamless, cloud-powered computing experience.

Unlike traditional devices like the Apple Mac Mini, Windows 365 Link operates entirely in the cloud, offering users an innovative way to access their desktop environment.

"Windows 365 Link is a new way to experience Windows 365. It provides desk-based users with a responsive, high-quality productivity experience while enhancing corporate data security, reducing endpoint management tasks, and promoting sustainability," Microsoft explained.

The Windows 365 Link supports dual 4K monitors and includes multiple connectivity options, such as four USB ports, an Ethernet port, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3.

The device seamlessly integrates with wired and wireless peripherals for optimal convenience.

Despite being cloud-based, the PC includes local processing capabilities to ensure smooth performance during high-definition video playback and video conferencing, including Microsoft Teams meetings.

The device is built with a locked-down operating system that lacks local apps, data, and administrative access.

This design minimizes security vulnerabilities by significantly reducing the attack surface, making it harder for malicious actors to compromise the system, Microsoft noted.

Windows 365 Link will launch in select markets in April 2025, priced at $349.

Users interested in early access can join the preview programme by December 15, 2024.

The preview will be available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.

While availability in India remains uncertain, the device represents Microsoft's next step in redefining productivity through cloud-based solutions.
