Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) on Thursday announced the results of this year's Higher Secondary (HS- Class 12 board) examination with a record 97.69% pass percentage for the first time.

Due to the pandemic situation, HS examination could not be conducted and the evaluation was based on candidate's performance in Madhyamik (Secondary- Class 10 board) and Class 11 examinations, and internal assessments as well as practical marks.

Scoring 499 out of 500 (99.8%), Rumana Sultana from Murshidabad's Kandi secured the first position while 86 students shared the top 10 positions.

This year, 7,77,997 students, including 3,51,790 boys and 4,26,207 girls had enrolled for the HS examination and 7,59,998 of them, including 3,43,603 boys and 4,16,395 girls, cleared the exam.

Declaring the results here, WBCHSE President Mahua Das said, "97.69% pass percentage has been recorded this year, including 99.28% in Science, 99.08% in Commerce and 98.47% in Humanities streams."

"More than 9000 students scored 90% or more while 49,370 students scored 80-80% marks," Mahua Das added.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated the successful students on her Twitter handle.
