West Bengal Govt sets up committee to anatomize new National Education Policy
Kolkata/IBNS: Criticizing the Centre's new education policy, West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee on Monday announced the formation of a six-member committee to review the National Education Policy.
Partha Chatterjee said that the six-man committee was comprised of retired professor and TMC MP Sougata Roy, senior educationalists Nrisingha Prasad Bhaduri and Pabitra Sarkar, state's syllabus restructure committee chairman Aveek Majumder, Jadavpur University (JU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Suranjan Das and Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) VC Sabyasachi Basu Roychowdhury.
The committee has been asked to anatomize the new National Education Policy, take opinions from the state's various teachers' organizations and submit its report before the government by Aug 15.
Chatterjee said that based on the expert-committee's report, the state government will send its opinion on the new education policy to the Centre.
"We have several objections on the new education policy and we had written to the Centre earlier about it, but the Central government announced it without holding any discussion on those issues," Partha Chatterjee said.
"It is impossible to implement a new national education policy immediately after the announcement. More time, meetings, discussions and clarifications are required before the implementation of the new education policy," Chatterjee added.
