Kolkata, Nov 20 (IBNS): Bollywood's national award winning actress Vidya Balan unveiled 'Antaryatra', a book written by Jayasri Burman and published by Gallery Sanskriti on Thursday in Kolkata.
Vidya expressed her admiration towards Jayasri's art as she said, "Her work really really stirs your soul. Jayasri is a gentle but a strong woman and I'm very happy to see her at this launch."

Antaryatra is a book that explores Jayasri Burman's journey as an artist from 1996 until 2015.

Speaking about the book, publisher-curator of the exhibition Ambica Beri talked about how she has seen Jayasri Burman evolve as an artist.

She said, "To put twenty years and a person's life story into paintings, into creation, into pages has been a revelation in itself."

The book does a full journey from the artist's earlier works right up to the myriad and mythical universes she has created into her drawings, painting, sculptures.

It contains a foreword by Bollywood veteran actor Amitabh Bachhan, several poems by Pritish Nandy, art critic Rajiv Chandran's expansive exposition of Jayasri Burman's work and conversations with Ina Puri, columnist and curator.

Jayasri Burman's work has been exhibited in several solo and group shows at Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore and other cities in India. She has also participated in international projects and workshops including the Triennale in Germany and exhibitions at London

The exhibition of 70 paintings and drawings and 14 large sculptures by Jayasri was inaugrated by artists Sakti Burman and Ganesh Haloi. It will be on display at the Birla Academy until 27th November and will then move to Gallery Sanskriti for the whole of December.
