Union ministry releases funds for SC students in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi, Jun 29 (IBNS):The Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment announced on Wednesday that over Rs 390 crores have been released under the post-Matric scholarship scheme for Scheduled Caste (SC) students of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment has approved the sum for the year 2016 - 17. 
 
Out of Rs 390 crores, Rs 217.89 crore has been released to Punjab and Rs 173.32 crore to Uttar Pradesh. 
 
The ministry said that with the release of these funds a large number of SC students in both the states will be able to take up higher education. 
 
Under this scheme, scholarship ranging from Rs 230 to Rs 1200 per month is given to SC students studying in post- Matric to Post-Graduate classes.
