Tripura CM inaugurates major expansion at Techno India University in Agartala

The inauguration and foundation-stone-laying ceremony was held as part of a day-long programme at the Maheshkhola campus.

Saha, the chief guest at the event, was joined by Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman. Techno India Group founder and TIUT Chancellor Satyam Roychowdhury presided over the programme.

The morning session included the inauguration of the Academic Block–D, the Tagore Lounge, a blood donation camp and the plantation of saplings on campus.

Officials also unveiled student project exhibitions and traditional food stalls and released TIUT publications, Mandala, TIUT Times and OBE & Skillsets: Theory to Practice.

Foundation stones were laid for new hostels, an auditorium, the vice chancellor’s bungalow and residential quarters for staff. An open gym and open-air theatre were inaugurated virtually, along with the signing of MoUs with partner institutions.

Saha said the expansion reflects rising demand for higher education in the state and noted that the Knowledge Campus now hosts about 2,500 students from across India.

He said institutions in Tripura, including TIUT, are aligning their programmes with the National Education Policy 2020.

In his address, Roychowdhury said Techno India’s presence in Tripura dates back to 1988, when the group established the state’s first computer training centre. He thanked the state government and local stakeholders for their support.

Co-chairperson Manoshi Roy Chowdhury emphasised the need for universities to integrate emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, sustainability and environmental studies, and highlighted the importance of research and efficient administration.

The cultural segment of the programme began later in the afternoon and was attended by Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath as chief guest, former Tripura University vice chancellor Arunoday Saha as guest of honour and Agartala Press Club president Pranab Sarkar as special guest.

The ceremony included the inauguration of a 33 kV dual-feeding indoor substation aimed at improving the campus’s power infrastructure.
