Tagore's 'Chirakumar Sabha' translated to English

Sushanta Dattagupta, Vice-Chancellor of Visva-Bharati University and Suranjan Das, Vice-Chancellor of University of Calcutta were present at the event.

Translated by Sukhendu Ray, a well-known translator of Bengali literary works into English, “Chirakumar Sabha -The Bachelor’s Club: A Comedy in Five Acts” is a hilarious account of a group of bachelors who eventually get married. 

“To non-Bengali speaking people Rabindranath Tagore is known through translations of his poetical works, and some of his fictions and short stories. His work for the theatre is relatively less-known with the exception of a few. ‘Chirakumar Sabha’ remains one of my favourite plays. I am particularly pleased that it is published by Oxford University Press and hope that it will reach the non-Bengali speaking population interested in literature,” said Sukhendu Ray.
