Prez Kovind, VP Naidu, PM Modi greet nation on Dussehra

New Delhi, Oct 8 (UNI): President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday led the nation in greeting the people on the occasion of Dussehra.

Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Home Minister Amit Shah also extended their greetings and said the festival inspires all to live by honesty and truthfulness.

''Greetings and good wishes to fellow citizens on Dussehra. The festival is a celebration of the victory of good over evil. It inspires us to live by honesty and truthfulness. May the day bring joy and prosperity to the people of the country'', the President tweeted.

In a series of tweets, the Vice-President said, "I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to the people of our country on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra".

''Dussehra is a celebration of the pious and principled path exemplified in the life and deeds of Lord Rama. The festival reminds us that we need to constantly quell the demonic forces and foster goodness and harmony", he said.

"This Dussehra, let us aim to tread a path that gives us peace and prosperity, a path that gives the entire humanity greater happiness and fulfillment. May this festival bring peace, harmony and prosperity to our country and the world'', Naidu further said.

Posting a video showcasing his previous visits to Dussehra event, the Prime Minister tweeted, "Greetings on the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashami".

Modi is also likely to attend the Dussehra celebrations, at Dwaraka in the evening, organised by Dwaraka Sri Ram Leela Society.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also greeted the nation, and tweeted, ''The festival of Vijayadashmi is a symbol of our great cultural tradition. This festival is a symbol of justice over injustice, triumph over ego and excellence of human ideals. Happy Dussehra festival to all of you.''

Rajnath Singh, who is in France to acquire the first of the 36 Rafale aircraft, on behalf of the Indian Air Force, greeted the people.

''Greetings to you on the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashmi'', the Defence Minister tweeted.

On the occasion of Dussehra, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also extended greetings to people.

''The festival of 'Vijayadashami' brings happiness, peace and prosperity in everyone's life'', the Home Minister tweeted in Hindi.

''Vijyaadshmii ke shubh utsv pr aap sbhii ko haardik shubhkaamnaaen''. ''Warm greetings on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashmi," External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted.
