Philanthroper singer Aruna Arya Gupta visits old age home in Kolkata
Kolkata/IBNS: Poet, singer and philanthropist Aruna Arya Gupta was recently in Kolkata to interact with the elderly residents of the Kasba unit of Shantineer, an old age home located in the southern part of the city.
The elderly residents welcomed Gupta among them and joined her in singing and dancing to popular tunes.
Shantineer, an old-age home with 350 elderly members on board, has adopted a holistic approach to empower, protect, guide and sustain the senior members, including identifying the causes of healthcare challenges related to the elderly and coming up with solutions for them.
Shantineer has 17 branches across Kolkata.
The activity was followed by an interactive session where both Arya Gupta and the residents poured their hearts out to each other, sharing their childhood memories, sorrows, struggles, happy moments and a lot more.
Said Arya Gupta, “The visit to the old age home was a fulfilling experience for me as I came back with not only memories but also some valuable lessons. I was so moved after meeting with the Shantineer residents that I have vowed to work tirelessly on my philanthropic endeavours both in the US as well as in India.”
The evening ended with a feast where Arya Gupta joined the senior residents of Shantineer.
Said Abhijit Das, founder and managing director of Shantineer, “The visit left a deep impact on our conscience, our hearts and souls. The visit was an epiphany. Each one of us is determined to firmly stand by our parents and elders, through thick and thin.”
