Monkey Bar: Go Chill !

| | Aug 25, 2017, at 05:56 pm
Beer is for the hot summers to cool down while the sun blazes outside. But if you usually take it straight on think again. Beer can be a refreshing main ingredient for cocktails too. The ongoing “Beer Mtkt” offering at the Monkey Bar gastropub on Kolkata’s Camac Street, proves that. You can also call it a good way to chase away the “Monsoon Blues.”

‘Beergarita’, for example, is a combination of Beer, Tequila and lime juice. Served in a signature Margarita glass with a sprinkling of salt on its rim, it reminds of the famous cocktail but is very different in taste. Another refreshing drink is ‘Monkey Mule’ –a pick-me-up anytime in summer or rainy season. Beer with vodka, house made ginger cordial, lime and mint make this ‘mule’ work very well indeed. Or perhaps a tall glass of  Peach trip is more to your liking, a concoction of beer, Jim Beam, peach  syrup  and Angostura bitters.

There are other cocktails in the menu too like, Bloody Roman- another version of Blood Mary, Beer Bong (the local connection!), etc. It’s  beer with many possibilities you discover at the “Beer Mtkt”.

To go with the drinks there is an array of finger food. Chicken wings come in different combos.  The Sticky Korean Gochujang is browned to perfection. Chicken wings with Honey Mustard  sauce is a winner too.  Then there is the imaginatively named Caribbean Jerk Sauce is an interesting version. For more wholesome platter, one can go for Poutine-French fries topped with cheese sauce, mushroom gravy, bell peppers and caramelized onion. The   Basket Combo comes with  two options of fries and two options of chicken wings.

With the Kolkata skyline as a backdrop Monkey Bar has one of the best locations in town. A beer cocktail in this ambience is even more enjoyable. The  “Beer Mtkt” speciality is on till the end of September.
