Kolkatans to get soaked into festivity on Mahashashti
Kolkata, Oct 19 (IBNS): As the day of Mahashashti arrived on Monday, it brought along new hopes and aspirations for the Hindus as people gear up to welcome Goddess Durga officially along with her four children (Laxmi, Saraswati, Kartik and Ganesh) amid pious rituals.
Going by Hindu rituals, life is established in the Durga idols on this very day.
The carnival in the city of Kolkata already started from Saturday as festive frenzy Kolkatans went pandal hopping.
However, Kolkatans received a little disappointment on Panchami as the city police announced a prohibition in the access to visit Deshapriya Park pandal in south Kolkata for worshippers.
A near stampede-like-situation occurred in the area with about 11 people being injured.
"Me and other officers rushed to the spot and we all controlled the situation very fast. There has been no casualty so far. Viewers' safety and security are the most important things to us. Only for Deshapriya Park's Durga Puja, whole south Kolkata was effected. They did not follow the terms and conditions properly. We have decided to close the access into Deshapriya Park indefinitely," Kolkata Police Commissioner Surajit Kar Purakayastha said in a press conference here on Sunday.
"I will request all worshippers to avoid Deshapriya Park and visit other pandals," he had added.
However, that won't seize the excitement among the revellers, who will get soaked into the festivity deeply from Mahashashti.
