Kolkata: Bengali actor Tota Roychowdhury, Dr Apurba Ghosh launch book on Pediatric Dermatology

Actor Tota Roy Chowdhury joined Dr. Apurba Ghosh and singer Rupankar Bagchi for the launch of a book titled 'Sishu Twak Ojana Katha' during an event in Kolkata's Rotary Sadan recently.

This book addresses the significant paediatric dermatological issues in India, a country where nearly 19% of the global child population resides.

Pediatric dermatology is a unique and dynamic field, dedicated to the study and treatment of skin conditions affecting infants, children, and adolescents.

This book is crafted to provide a comprehensive and accessible resource for healthcare professionals who seek to deepen their understanding and enhance their clinical skills in managing paediatric dermatological disorders.

Indian Institute of Child Care was handed over a cheque of Rs 5,00,000 as donation for their charitable work on this occasion by the author

“The skin, our largest organ, presents a diverse range of conditions, each with its own set of challenges and nuances. In paediatric patients, these challenges are further compounded by factors such as developmental stages, genetic predispositions, and the impact of skin conditions on growth and quality of life. The book equips practitioners with the knowledge and tools necessary to diagnose, treat, and manage these conditions effectively, ensuring the best possible outcomes for their young patients,” says Dr. Sandipan Dhar.

" This book is divided into several sections, each meticulously curated to cover the breadth and depth of paediatric dermatology. We begin with foundational knowledge, exploring the structure and function of the skin, followed by a detailed examination of common and uncommon paediatric skin disorders. Each chapter includes clinical photographs, diagnostic criteria, and evidence-based treatment guidelines to provide a practical and illustrative approach to learning. In addition to covering dermatological conditions, the book has dedicated sections to the psychological and social aspects of skin diseases in children. Understanding the emotional and social impact of these conditions is crucial in providing holistic care. We emphasize the importance of a compassionate and patient-centred approach, recognizing that effective communication with both the child and their family is essential in managing pediatric skin disorders," Dhar said.

"This book also addresses the latest advancements in pediatric dermatology, including novel therapies, emerging research, and the integration of technology in diagnosis and treatment. By staying abreast of these developments, healthcare professionals can offer innovative and up-to-date care to their patients," he said.

Dr.Dhar acknowledged his mentors, including the late Dr. Surinder Kaur, PGIAMR, Chandigarh who introduced him to dermatology, and Dr. Apurba Ghosh of Institute of Child Health,  Kolkata, for their constant support.

He also thanked Dr. Arti Nanda of Asad AL Hamad Dermatology Centre, Kuwait and colleagues like Dr. Raghubir Banerjee, Dr. Rajib Malakar, and Dr. Abhijit Saha.

"Special thanks go to his medical assistant, Priyanka Banerjee, for helping with the book’s first draft," he said.

The book extends heartfelt thanks to the families and patients who have taught us so much through their experiences and resilience.

“It is my hope that this book will serve as an invaluable resource for dermatologists, pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, and all healthcare providers involved in the care of children with skin conditions. May it inspire and empower to deliver the highest standard of care, and to continue advancing the field of paediatric dermatology for the benefit of all our young patients,” summed up Dhar.
