Kolkata/IBNS: Helping Hands of Kolkata (HHoK), which works for the underprivileged section of people in various ways, such as community kitchens, education for the girl child, etc., recently held its first fundraiser. HHoK is part of a registered trust named Helping Hands of Kolkata Foundation for Care.

The primary projects of HHoK include the HHoK Community Kitchen, HHoK Paathshala, Girl Child Education, including sponsoring bright girl students, and the HHoK Store of Happiness.

HHoK Store of Happiness is an annual event that is carried out in Sonajhuri, Sundarbans, where a makeshift store is setup with tens of thousands rarely used and unused items available for the people of the village to come in and pick up any item they want, without paying a single rupee.

From time to time, they also offer support to young athletes, provide food and medicine to animal shelters, distribute relief items during natural calamities, etc.

Kaushik Dey, founder of HHoK said, “Collaborative support was the underlying concept with which HHoK was conceived.”

Recently, the organisation held its first fund-raiser programme called Sahyog, which enabled the donors and supporters to meet the beneficiaries.

Said Dey, "Development projects need support and funds. We have all been heavily dependent on individual donors, rather than grants and funding from public and private agencies."

Beneficiaries presented a cultural programme for the guests.
