Durga Puja 2016: Step into Arshinagar at Bhowanipur 75 Palli (Kolkata)

Kolkata, Oct 4 (IBNS): Bhowanipur 75 Palli, one of the popular neighbourhood Puja committees of Kolkata (south), has chosen the theme 'Aarshinagar' or the 'land of mirrors', for Durga Puja 2016.

Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, inaugurated the Puja celebration on Monday.

The idea is to express the joys of life through reflections in the mirror or the 'arshi', to rejoice in a feeling of nostalgia, the organisers said.

The 40-feet marquee is decorated with mirror work as seen in various parts of India, as part of textile embroidery or as handicrafts.

Subir Das, Secretary, Bhowanipur 75 Palli Sarbojonin Durgotsav, said, “After the huge success of the 51st celebration last year, the entire team of 75 Palli is fully charged up for this year. We will be promoting young talented artist Biman Saha, who has conceptualised the thematic design. This year’s special attraction would be a 40 feet elephant and a life-size replica of Saint Teresa. The selfie zone inaugurated by the CM can be used as a selfie zone by visitors."

To ensure a safe and secure celebration, the organisers have made arrangements to meet medical emergencies as well as special arrangements for  senior citizens and differently-abled visitors.
