| | Nov 21, 2015, at 05:56 pm
Kolkata, Nov 21 (IBNS) For Bickram Ghosh reading books is just not a therapeutic experience but also propels self-growth, the tabla exponent said on Wednesday.

"I still read lot of books. I consistently buy books and I think everyone should, ignoring onslaught of social network and e-books and likewise. I believe books make an individual," Bickram told IBNS on the sidelines of a book launch programme of a popular radio jockey at the Story book-store.

The thinker musician, who also considers himself a reader of varied tastes, said he liked autobiographies the most.

"These books take me to the threshold of experience. From autobiographies by Charlie Chaplin, Mahatma Gandhi, Groucho Marx to the classics by Ayan Rand," Bickram explained.

"I had been liking autobiographies since childhood."

Bickram, a self-confessed bibliophile likes everything, from thrillers of Jeffery Archer to the classics like Fountainhead by Ayan Rand, the percussionist said while attending the launch of 'The Book of Truth',  RJ Arnabi's debut printed edition of a collection of queries on issues confronting life.

"Like performing in music shows, book reading is also a cathartic experience for me even in privacy," Bickram said.

The event was also attended by director-columnist Sudeshna Roy, who said, "Enjoying what you do is the most important thing in life."

Quoting her long time friend, the late Rituparno Ghosh, the Cross Connection director said, "Though our visions (her and Rituparno's) differ as film makers, I do concur with what he had said about enjoying life."
