Benjarong celebrates Songkran Festival with Thai street food festival

Bangalore, Apr 4 (IBNS) : Benjarong, a popular Thai restaurant, will celebrate Songkran Festival with an exciting street food festival to mark Thai New Year at it’s outlet in Ulsoor Road here from Apr 6 to Apr 24.

Interestingly the name ‘Songkran’ is derived from Sanskrit and the festival signifies the entry of the sun into the Zodiac Aries, which marks the beginning of spring and harvest festival. Traditionally, Thai celebrate the festival aiming water guns and by throwing water balloons at each other. They also visit their elders to pay respect and meet their family and friends. They cleanse the images and idols of Lord Buddha which is believed to bring prosperity and good luck.

Benjarong brings the taste of authentic Thai street food to the city by hosting this festival. 

The festival will showcase the best dishes of the cuisine such as Hed ruam prik khi noo (Work tossed assorted mushrooms with garlic, bird eye chillies and kaffir lime leaves), Goong tod chatuchak (Panco crumbed prawns coated with minced chicken  and deep fried and served with sweet chilli sauce, a delicacy from chatuchak weekend market) and many more. 

The menu features varieties mouth-watering appetizers Gai ping (Marinated chicken skewers grilled and served with a tangy spicy dip), Lookchin pla yang (Grilled fish dumplings on skewers with chef’s special dip), Sai krok Isan (Thai Isan north eastern style chicken sausages grilled and served)and many more lip-smacking dishes. 

The menu also includes soup and salad like Gaeng jued guaytiew gai (Thai clear soup with chicken drumstick, flat noodles and assorted greens), Yum  Thunghua tohu (Tangy and spicy cucumber and tofu salad) scrumptious main courses like Poo pahd keow wahn (Hard shell crab cooked in green curry paste and Thai sweet basil sauce), Khao pahd maprao gai yang kamin (Grilled turmeric flavoured chicken served with coconut rice and mango salad) and hand-crafted desserts like Gruay tod (Thai crusty banana fritters with vanilla ice cream) etc.
