Arunachal Pradesh installs solar-wind hybrid power plant to promote renewable energy

Itanagar/IBNS: The Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and Technology, in collaboration with the School of Energy Science & Engineering under IIT Guwahati, has successfully installed a solar-wind power plant in the Papum Pare district.

The inauguration of the 10-KW hybrid plant system took place on Friday at the Rural Technology Demonstration Centre (RTDC) in Kimin, reported The Hills Times.

The cutting-edge system combines a four-blade horizontal axis wind turbine, with a capacity of 5 KW, installed at a height of 12 meters above ground level, along with 5 KW-capacity solar photovoltaic panels.

Officials overseeing the project highlighted that the energy generated by this innovative setup will be efficiently monitored using a hybrid charge controller and stored in a battery bank.

One of the key advantages of this wind-solar hybrid system is its ability to generate uninterrupted power throughout the year, unaffected by seasonal variations.

An official involved in the project emphasized that this technology is particularly viable in Arunachal Pradesh due to the region's abundant wind speed and ample solar radiation for a major part of the year.

This installation is also expected to play a significant role in achieving the state's target of net-zero carbon emissions, as set forth by the 'Pakke Declaration' announced by the state cabinet in 2021.

The declaration aims to foster a multi-sectoral approach towards low-emission and climate-resilient development.

During the inauguration ceremony, APSCS&T chairman Bamang Mangha, alongside director C.D. Mungyak and other dignitaries, expressed their enthusiasm for the solar-wind power plant, highlighting its potential to contribute to the state's sustainable development and combat climate change.

The installation of such hybrid systems throughout Arunachal Pradesh is expected to pave the way for a greener future, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources and embracing cleaner alternatives.

With this initiative, the state demonstrates its commitment to harnessing the power of renewable energy and sets an inspiring example for other regions to follow suit in the transition towards a sustainable energy landscape.
