Art works based on mythology exhibited in Kolkata

Kolkata,Sept 27 (IBNS): Artist Sanjoy Majumdar recently hosted a seven-day- long solo exhibition of his recent artworks at Taj Bengal in Kolkata.

“Art for me is like a brainchild of our soul and it is a divine process, a heavenly blessing bestowed on a few lucky people. At the same time, art is all about passion and for me; every event of life inspires and contributes to my art. It is a visual growth with the amalgamation of the myriad thought process,” said Majumder.

The exhibition consists of paintings done in oils on canvas and oils on paper.

“I chose the themes of Hindu mythology as I felt it is an integral part of my soul,” said Majumder.

Speaking on the exhibition, he said: "In the ‘Cosmic Bond’, I have tried to show the absolute rising from the seven chakras. These chakras essentially govern the concept of ‘Maya’, thus manifesting the absolute in place.”

“The pink circle depicts the feminine energy and the blue and purple shades symbolize the male energy. The attraction and the repulsion between the two is a natural phenomenon. This is essentially the cosmic bond,” elaborated Majumder.

“The art work titled ‘Cosmic Split’ is where the manifestation of the absolute is in progress. There are shades of green and red scattered and the Devi herself is present,” said the artist.

“Kali on ride is an oil on canvas where the five orange circles depict five human indriyas, and Shiva is symbolic. Thus, Kali; the absolute, is controlling the five indriyas responsible for all human activities,”added Majumder.

The artist, who has trained under Mihir Majumder and then Ashok Banerjee, has been inspired by his grandmother, and has hosted almost 32 group exhibitions and 21 solo exhibitions, and has travelled extensively to Dhaka, Bangkok, New York and New Jersey.

The exhibition was inaugurated on Sept 19.
