Air India pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by painting a portrait on its aircraft

New Delhi: State-owned carrier Air India on Wednesday paid homage to India's freedom fighting icon Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary by painting a portrait on the tail of A320 aircraft at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here.

The height of the portrait is 11 feet and 4.9 feet wide, carrier spokesperson Dhanajay Kumar said.

He said, 'The whole work was done by the A320 maintenance team under the supervision of General Manager Mahendra Kumar and maintenance team in charge Sanjay Kumar.'

The airline has taken all necessary approvals for painting his portrait, he added.

On the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in paying tributes to him. 

Air India also tweeted: "#FlyAI : Air India pays tribute to Bapu on 150th birth anniversary. Image of our Beloved Bapu painted on VT-CIO A320 aircraft.
